WWE Mourns the Passing of Sabu

WWE is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Terry Brunk, known to fans around the world as Sabu.

The nephew of WWE Hall of Famer The Sheik, Sabu rose to prominence in ECW, where he helped redefine hardcore wrestling. Renowned for his fearless style, he thrilled audiences by soaring off chairs and sending opponents crashing through tables and barbed wire.

Sabu was at the heart of some of ECW’s most unforgettable moments, engaging in legendary rivalries with WWE Hall of Famers Rob Van Dam and Mick Foley, as well as The Sandman and his fiercest adversary, Tazz.

In 2006, Sabu joined WWE as part of the company’s relaunch of the ECW brand. He took on major challenges, battling Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship and John Cena for the WWE Championship.

One of the highlights of his career came at WrestleMania 23 in his hometown of Detroit, where Sabu teamed with fellow ECW Originals — The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, and Rob Van Dam — to earn a memorable victory in front of more than 80,000 fans.

After departing WWE in 2007, Sabu continued to compete around the world, remaining a spectacle in the ring and a legend to fans of extreme wrestling.

WWE extends its heartfelt condolences to Sabu’s family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
